Chong Pun Rector Cutler
May 3, 1950 - March 5, 2025
We are all deeply saddened at the sudden and unexpected death of my beloved wife, Chong Pun Rector Cutler.
A wife, mother of three, grandmother of six, she made friends easily wherever she went with her warm heart, outgoing personality, mischievous sense of humor and generosity of spirt. She would light up a room when she entered it with her smile, energy and personality. Whether it be her neighbors, staff at the local supermarket, bank or pharmacy she frequented, they were all used to her fun loving, irreverent sense of humor and generous spirit.
She could never pass by a baby without wanting to play with it or pass a stranger who crossed her path without sharing a joke and a smile. No one she met remained a stranger to her for long. No one could ever spend much time around Chong without starting to speak in “Korean” english. True story!
She was deeply proud of her children: Ted, Sandie and Bill, and of her grandchildren: Jade, Ted, Mykala, Jordan, Nelda and Otto and was constantly sharing their achievements and activities with everyone she met and talked to.
She could never meet a family member without wanting to feed them. The first thing she would always ask was Pegu Pah? (Are you hungry?) She frequently brought food to staff working in the pharmacy and bank she used, volunteers working at Arvada reservoir where she fished or strikers at the local grocery stores where she shopped. She was an excellent cook and her family members who visited could always expect to leave stuffed with delicious Korean cooking.
A woman of deep faith in Jesus Christ, a keen and talented gardener and fisherwoman who loved long walks with her husband, always on the lookout for wildlife. She would watch nature and wildlife programs with fascination for hours and became an expert. Her latest passions included watching Nuggets games and rodeo! You could always expect the unexpected from Chong!
Fiery and opinionated, without any filter, you always knew what Chong really thought on any subject and she had a furious temper when aroused. She could be stubborn, irrational and at times bat sh*t crazy but no one ever doubted the goodness of her heart. She literally gave the jacket off her own back to a young mother in just a t-shirt with a baby asking for money in the snow. She crocheted blankets for her doctors and nurses when they had newborn babies. She made PB & J sandwiches to take with her when she went fishing to give to kids she met there who complained they had nothing to eat and were hungry.
Chong began her life began on a farm in Korea where she soon became a refugee in the Korean war before coming to the US with little formal education and almost no English. She began her career working minimum wage jobs in Seattle, Washington. Through the years she moved to Kansas City, Kansas and subsequently to Denver, Colorado. Along the way she became a entrepreneur and business owner before her retirement.
She was a two-time cancer survivor and she faced increasing health challenges in her later years. She faced these all these, and all challenges throughout her life, in a way that demonstrated her great strength of character and determination.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
Chong left us too soon. She left us wishing for more. She will be missed every day. The world is a poorer place without her in it.
