Matthew William Mallory

Matthew William Mallory, known to most as Matt, passed away in late August 2026 at the age of 36.
Matt was born and raised in northwest Houston, Texas, playing sports and creating music with friends, but the mountains eventually called him west. For the last two years, he made his home in Denver, Colorado, where he could spend more of his free time outside, hiking, camping, snowboarding, exploring, and finding the kind of quiet that only nature can offer. He loved being active, appreciating art and music, and discovering new places and new ways of thinking.
Matt had a thoughtful and philosophical nature. He was observant, curious, and often funny. He had a way of listening, noticing, and then offering the perfectly timed comment, a clever remark, a dry joke, or a grin that said he had been taking it all in. Those who knew him well understood that beneath his reserved exterior was a warm, adventurous, deeply caring person with a rich inner life.
Matt earned his degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies from Texas State University and spent most of his career helping connect organizations with technology focused on water management and conservation.
His colleagues remember him as calm, reliable, kind, patient, and quietly humorous. They spoke of the way he made people feel welcome and at ease, and of the respect he earned simply through the way he carried himself. Those qualities were familiar to his family, too. He was defined by his loyalty, thoughtfulness, and willingness to help others in times of need.
Matt loved music, travel, hiking, snowboarding, staying active, and the possibility of what came next. He had big goals, a restless curiosity, and an adventurous spirit. He wanted to see more, understand more, and experience more. There was always another trail, another place, another idea worth exploring.
He was a deeply loved son, brother, uncle, and friend. He cared for his family in a way that was steady and genuine, and he was dearly loved in return. His nephews, Evan and Aidan, knew him as Uncle Matt, and his family will carry forward the memory of his humor, his playfulness, his intelligence, his gentleness, his curiosity, and the thoughtful way he moved through the world.
Matt is survived by his mother, Becky; his father, Ken; his sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and Ben; and his nephews, Evan and Aidan, as well as extended family, friends, and colleagues whose lives were made better by knowing him.
There are people who leave an impression because they pay attention to people, to ideas, to the natural world, and to the things that matter. Matt was thoughtful and funny, reserved and adventurous, practical and philosophical. He cared deeply. He dreamed big. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service celebrating Matt’s life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Ecclesia Houston, 1100 Elder Street, Houston, Texas 77007.
