Catherine (Cate) North
August 1, 1960 - February 19, 2026
Catherine (Cate) died peacefully at her home in Denver, Colorado on February 19, 2026 from metastatic breast cancer. She died a good death, looking at her glorious view of the Denver skyline, with a background of the Rocky Mountains, and the faces of loved ones at her side.
Born in Park River, North Dakota, Cate knew at a young age that she wanted to get out in the world. She moved to Chicago, where she established her sales and marketing career when high tech was personal computers and software programs, not smartphones and apps. While in Chicago she attended Roosevelt University and Northwestern University, before moving to Colorado in 2004, where she lived the remainder of her years except for a year in North Carolina.
Cate was open and willing to try new things. She believed she was good at coming up with ideas and while she started several ventures small and large, she fell short of carrying most of them through to the end. All the while she enjoyed the experiences and learnings.
The birds they sing
At the break of day
Start again, I hear them say
Don't dwell on what has passed away
Or what is yet to be
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack–a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in
~Leonard Cohen
Cate is survived by two sisters, Yvonne and Ellen; her godchild Terri who was like a daughter to her; and two generations of nieces and nephews: Kevin (Danielle), Renee (Jake), Dustin (Mel), Danielle (Kyle), Marcus, Alek, Ryan, Connor and Jack; and several close, beloved friends. She is grateful to all for their loving support, especially during the most challenging steps of her journey. Cate is preceded in death by her parents Verner and Beatrice, her sister Carol and her brother David. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to one of the following organizations in Cate’s name:
