Dolores “DJ” de la Cuadra

November 12, 2025

Dolores “DJ” de la Cuadra was 68 when the pain she had endured for 13 relentless years finally became more than her body and spirit could bear. With no meaningful prospects for relief left in sight, she made the only decision she felt was truly hers to make. After all this time, she did what no one else could do for her: she released herself from suffering that had become unlivable.

DJ was many things:
A loving wife of 46½ years to Fernando
A patient, steady, and deeply caring mother to Chelsea and Erika
A fun, curious, and adventurous Nanny to her grandchildren, Dawn (Celia) and Westley
An attentive and compassionate daughter to her mother, Peggy
A sister whose bond with Rachael and Sally was shaped by love, history, and complicated truths
A dedicated band mom, guard mom, room mom, and teacher’s right hand for countless years
A political activist who fought for dignity, fairness, and the rights of all
An environmentalist who cared deeply and acted deliberately to protect nature
A genuine friend who would drop anything to show up when needed
A lifelong dog lover; wherever DJ was, a well-loved dog (and sometimes cat) was never far behind
A lover of trees and beaches, otters and sea turtles
A devoted volunteer at church and in her community
A fierce advocate for herself through every challenge life set before her
   A true believer

After a life well-lived--a life full to the brim of both joy and pain, love and grief--she allowed herself to step away from the fight and find true peace

Rest in peace, DJ - Descanse en paz, mi amor
