Michael Anthony Datino
June 25, 1957 - May 18, 2025
Michael “Mike” “Coach” “Chef” “Mikey” “Dad” and “Pop” Anthony Datino peacefully passed away on May 18, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Mike was born on June 25, 1957, to parents Antonio Pietro Datino and Barbara Mary Datino of Mamaroneck, NY. As with many Italian-American families, his first years were spent sharing a home with his parents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and grandparents. There, he was instilled with the foundation of family, centered around the kitchen being the heart of the home.
As life evolved, Mike’s younger brothers arrived, Peter and Christopher (Laura) Datino. These Datino boys had adventures. From boxing matches in the backyard, to plywood submarines, to the Friday night lights on the football field, they all lived large, sharing a storied childhood.
On August 23,1980, Michael married the love of his life, Ellen Barnds-Datino. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, they continued a journey that began in Columba Datino’s (Mike’s grandmother) kitchen all those years ago. Together, they moved from New York to Colorado to open Datino’s Longmont Cafe. A labor of love that recreated the heart of the kitchen, creating a family out of community. While the restaurant didn’t last, the intent did.
Mike’s accomplishments ran deep, however, his greatest accomplishment was the love he had for his family and friends.
Mike’s children, Jessiee, Flint (Ashley), and Elizabeth (Martin); grandchildren, Arlo, Leo, Sonny, and soon to be named:), continually celebrate his mission. He was an adventurer. From skiing, hiking, fishing, camping, cooking, coaching, and creating, Mike was up for it.
He lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
