Liz Brost

February 1, 1968 - April 15, 2024

Elizabeth Anne Brost, “Liz,” age 56, died peacefully on April 15, 2024 at Denver Hospice. Liz is survived by her daughter Cambria “Cami”; her brother Randy (Ellen) of Albuquerque; her brothers James (Jennifer) and Matt (Jessica) of the Dallas area; her Aunts Linda (Bob) of Chicago, Teri of Omaha, and Jean of Dallas; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her father Hal (2020), her mother Virginia (2023), and her stepmother Libby (2022).

Liz was a spirited, curious child who continued her sense of adventure into adulthood, climbing many of the 14ers of Colorado and cycling long distances. Cycling and medicine were lifelong loves of hers. She easily managed three diverse majors in college (Japanese, Business, and Pre-Med). By the last two years of her med school clinical rotation, she was honored in every course (top student). Liz’s intellectual curiosity was a fundamental part of who she was and, when her health allowed, she was constantly reading and recommending books. Always ahead of her time, she developed a paperless private practice in 2001 which she ran for five years before moving to a job with Cigna which allowed her to have more time with her daughter. By 2008 she was the Medical Director for Cigna’s Western Region.

Health issues, however, began to continually challenge Liz and she was eventually unable to practice medicine. She continued, however, to read medical journals and remained sharp and inquisitive, delighting in opportunities to answer others’ questions. Her main life focus, despite her own challenges, was mothering and loving her daughter, Cambria. No one in Liz’s life gave her as much joy and delight as Cami. After Liz’s cancer diagnosis in January of 2023, they focused on enjoying the moment and “memory making.” Even when things were rough, Liz would often break into a deep and playful laughter about the ordinary mishaps of the day or something silly that Cambria or Aishite, her dog, did.

Liz’s brother, Randy, adored his “Kid Sister” and they shared deep curiosity and a love of the outdoors. She had numerous friends and colleagues whom she treasured, and she had two very special friends Sandy (“Spitfire”) and Lisa, who walked beside her through laughter and tears for many years. Liz will be remembered for her amazing strength and determination as well as all the ways she loved and cared about others. Her homemade banana bread “thank you’s”, her thoughtful gifts, as well as her delight in the companionship of her precious dog Aishite (“Little Man”) were some of her other hallmarks.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Denver hospice for their wonderful end of life care. The Rockies were Liz’s refuge and her ashes will be scattered there. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Doctors Without Borders, the AMA Foundation, or a charity of your choice, and/or planting a plant in her honor - a favorite spring tradition of Liz’s.
