Gary R. Bishop
February 14, 1965 - August 30, 2022
Gary passed away on August 30, 2022, at the age of 57. He was a son, brother, father, uncle, and friend, and above all, a devoted follower of Christ.
Gary courageously battled cancer for four years, enduring chemotherapy with unwavering faith and hope. He often said, while pointing upward, that it was all in His hands.
Gary always dreamed of becoming a pilot and worked toward that goal for many years. Although the cost eventually prevented him from pursuing it fully, his love for aviation never left him. He worked for UPS loading aircraft, a job that required precision, balance, and attention to detail, skills Gary mastered and took great pride in. He worked for UPS as long as his health allowed, until the effects of long-term chemotherapy made it impossible to continue.
Gary had an incredible knowledge of airplanes. On drives home from chemo treatments, he would spot planes in the sky and enthusiastically explain everything there was to know about them. He was passionate about many things, but family meant the most to him. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved.
Many may not know that Gary was adopted, though it never mattered to his family. He was deeply loved and fully embraced. Toward the end of his life, Gary was given the opportunity to meet his birth mother, half brother, and half sister. He spent meaningful time with them and with his extended biological family. One of the very first things he did after meeting them was go to his mom and tell her that no matter what, she was his mother and always would be. That loyalty defined Gary. He especially enjoyed discovering that he and his brother shared many of the same mannerisms.
Gary was deeply loved, and the void he leaves behind is immeasurable. His absence is felt at different times by each of us, but he remains forever present in our hearts.
Gary is buried at Evergreen Memorial Park.
